MetaMicro Design Pattern — Eliminate Redundancy Across Microservices
The MetaMicro Design Pattern addresses functional redundancy across microservices, data processing pipelines, and event-driven tools by consolidating shared mechanics into reusable services with externalised metadata. Instead of duplicating similar logic across dozens of services, MetaMicro provides a single configurable engine that adapts its behaviour at runtime — no redeployments, no code duplication.
The Problem
In a typical microservice architecture, you will find dozens of services that all do fundamentally the same thing — consume data, validate it, transform it, and produce output — but each one is implemented differently. Different error handling, different validation logic, different deployment pipelines. The result is an explosion of maintenance burden, inconsistent behaviour, and duplicated effort across teams. Typical enterprise BPM licenses cost $500K–$2M annually to solve this problem. MetaMicro offers comparable flexibility at a fraction of the cost.
The Solution: Metadata-Driven Behaviour
MetaMicro consolidates the common mechanics into a single, reusable engine. The behaviour of each "virtual service" is defined entirely through metadata — stored in a database or Redis — rather than hardcoded into application logic. When a request arrives, the engine looks up the metadata for that endpoint/tool/pipeline and executes the appropriate logic dynamically.

1. REST API Consolidation
Instead of building separate API controllers for every resource, MetaMicro uses metadata to define endpoints and their validation rules. A single engine handles all REST endpoints — request parsing, validation, authorisation, transformation, and response formatting — all driven by configuration.
// Traditional: One controller per resource (duplicated logic)
@RestController class UserController { ... }
@RestController class OrderController { ... }
@RestController class ProductController { ... }
// Each has its own validation, error handling, auth checks
// MetaMicro: One engine, metadata-driven
