Tivra Support
Help, troubleshooting, and contact.
Help, troubleshooting, and contact for Tivra Audiobooks on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac.
Getting Started
How do I import my first book?
Open Tivra Audiobooks, tap the + button (top-left), and pick a PDF or EPUB from Files, iCloud Drive, or any cloud service connected to Files. You can also share a PDF directly from Safari, Mail, or any app via the share sheet and choose "Tivra Audiobooks".
How long does it take to generate audio?
The first few chapters render within about 30 seconds using Apple's built-in voices. Higher-quality Kokoro neural voices (English) become available after a one-time download of around 170 MB on Wi-Fi. Rendering continues in the background while you listen.
Can I listen in a different language than the book?
Yes. When importing, pick "Listen in" and choose any of 20+ languages. Translation happens on-device using Apple's Translation Framework; your text never leaves your phone. The first time you use a language, Apple prompts to download the language pack (also on-device).
Playback and Sync
Does playback continue when the screen is locked?
Yes. Tivra Audiobooks registers as a spoken-audio app, so playback continues with the screen off, integrates with lock-screen controls, and works with AirPods, CarPlay, and external Bluetooth headsets.
How does iCloud sync work?
If iCloud Drive is enabled, your library syncs across all your Apple devices automatically. Books rendered on Mac or iPad appear on your iPhone, and your listening position resumes from wherever you stopped. If iCloud is off, books stay on the device they were imported to.
The Apple Watch app shows "Waiting for iPhone."
The Watch app needs the iPhone Tivra Audiobooks app installed and recently launched to receive your library. Open Tivra Audiobooks on iPhone once, then return to the Watch app. For standalone playback on Watch with AirPods, mark a book as "Download to Watch" first.
Audio pauses when I receive a phone call. Will it resume?
Yes. Tivra Audiobooks honors iOS audio-session interruptions. When a call comes in, playback pauses. When the call ends, playback automatically resumes if iOS signals that you want it to. If you'd prefer to keep audio paused, just don't tap play.
Troubleshooting
Audio sounds robotic or unnatural.
The default Apple voices are functional but not premium quality. For English, wait for the Kokoro neural voice download to complete (check Settings for download status), then re-render the book from its detail view, open the menu, and tap Re-render.
"This iPhone has 4 GB of RAM" message.
On-device audio rendering needs at least 6 GB of RAM (iPhone 15 Pro and newer). On 4 GB devices, Tivra Audiobooks plays books you render on an iPad Pro or Mac. They appear via iCloud sync automatically. Same library, same bookmarks, same listening position.
Import fails or audio doesn't generate.
- Check the PDF is text-based, not a scanned image.
- Try a smaller file first to verify the flow works.
- Restart Tivra Audiobooks.
- If still stuck, email dev.vinod@outlook.com with the file size, your device model, and the error message.
I deleted Tivra Audiobooks by mistake. Are my books gone?
If iCloud Drive was enabled, your library survives in iCloud Drive under the Tivra folder. Reinstall the app, sign into the same iCloud account, and your books return automatically. If iCloud was disabled, books were on-device only and are lost; you would need to re-import the source PDFs and EPUBs.
Kokoro voice never finishes downloading.
The Kokoro CoreML model (around 170 MB) downloads only when your device is on Wi-Fi. If you're on cellular, the download waits. If you're on Wi-Fi but it stalls, force-quit Tivra Audiobooks and reopen; the download resumes. If it still fails, check that your Wi-Fi can reach huggingface.co (some corporate or school networks block it).
Privacy and Security
Does Tivra Audiobooks send my book content anywhere?
No. All processing, including text extraction, translation, and narration synthesis, happens on your device. Your books never leave your hardware, except via your own iCloud Drive if you've enabled that for cross-device sync.
What's the audio encryption key for?
Tivra Audiobooks encrypts rendered audio with a per-device AES-256 key stored in your iOS or macOS Keychain. If you back up your library externally (USB drive, Google Drive, and so on), the audio is unreadable without the key. Settings, then Storage, then Show / Copy Audio Key lets you export the key to other Apple devices.
Where can I read the full privacy policy?
See the Tivra Privacy Policy. It is written in plain language and lists every third-party service Tivra touches and what data it sees.
Feature Requests and Bug Reports
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email dev.vinod@outlook.com with the subject "Tivra: [your topic]". Please include your device model, iOS / iPadOS / watchOS / macOS version, and a short description of what you expected versus what happened. Screenshots help.
Refunds
How do I get a refund?
Tivra Audiobooks is currently free on the App Store. If we introduce paid features in the future, refund requests must be made directly to Apple via reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple handles all App Store payments and refunds.
